The Sound Of Europe 2 was the 2nd edition of the Sound Of Europe. It took place in Ericsson Globe, Stockholm, Sweden, following Sweden's victory with Molly Sandén and her song "Freak". This was the first time that Sweden hosted the contest. The 2nd edition consisted of three semi-finals, which took place on 30 April 2015, and a final, held on 6 May 2015. The shows were presented by Petra Mede and Måns Zelmerlöw while Molly Sandén was hosting the green room. Forty-four countries participated in the 2nd edition.

Once all the votes had been announced, based on 50% jury and 50% televoting, Cyprus won the contest, with  Polina Christodoulou's song "Eleni Tis Nichtas".

Location

Stockholm is the capital of Sweden and the most populous city in the Nordic countries; 932,917 people live in the municipality, approximately 1.5 million in the urban area, and 2.3 million in the metropolitan area. The city is spread across 14 islands on the coast in the southeast of Sweden at the mouth of Lake Mälaren, by the Stockholm archipelago and the Baltic Sea. The area has been settled since the Stone Age, in the 6th millennium BC, and was founded as a city in 1252 by a Swedish statesman Birger Jarl. It is also the capital of Stockholm County.

Stockholm is the cultural, media, political, and economic centre of Sweden. The Stockholm region alone accounts for over a third of the country's GDP, and is among the top 10 regions in Europe by GDP per capita. It is an important global city, and the main centre for corporate headquarters in the Nordic region. The city is home to some of Europe's top ranking universities, such as the Stockholm School of Economics, Karolinska Institute and Royal Institute of Technology (KTH). It hosts the annual Nobel Prize ceremonies and banquet at the Stockholm Concert Hall and Stockholm City Hall. One of the city's most prized museums, the Vasa Museum, is the most visited non-art museum in Scandinavia. The Stockholm metro, opened in 1950, is well known for its decoration of the stations; it has been called the longest art gallery in the world. Sweden's national football arena is located north of the city centre, in Solna. Ericsson Globe, the national indoor arena, is in the southern part of the city. The city was the host of the 1912 Summer Olympics, and hosted the equestrian portion of the 1956 Summer Olympics otherwise held in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

Stockholm is the seat of the Swedish government and most of its agencies, including the highest courts in the judiciary, and the official residencies of the Swedish monarch and the Prime Minister. The government has its seat in the Rosenbad building, the Riksdag is seated in the Parliament House, and the Prime Minister's residence is adjacent at the Sager House. The Stockholm Palace is the official residence and principal workplace of the Swedish monarch, while the Drottningholm Palace, a World Heritage Site on the outskirts of Stockholm, serves as the Royal Family's private residence.

Venue

The contest took place in the Ericsson Globe in Stockholm, following Sweden's victory at the 1st edition of the contest in Athens with the song "Freak", performed by Molly Sandén . The Ericsson Globe has a capacity of approximately 16,000 attendees.

Format

The edition consisted of three semi-finals and a final. The seven countries with the highest scores in all semi-finals qualified to the final. However, Hungary and San Marino disqualified from the semi-final 2 while Monaco disqualified from semi-final 3 (for more info. see Incidents section)

Each participating country had their own national jury, which consisted of five professional members of the music industry. Each member of a respective nation's jury was required to rank every song, except that of their own country. The voting results from each member of a particular nation's jury were combined to produce an overall ranking from first to last place. Likewise, the televoting results were also interpreted as a full ranking, taking into account the full televoting result rather than just the top ten. The combination of the jury's full ranking and the televote's full ranking produced an overall ranking of all competing entries. The song which scored the highest overall rank received 12 points, while the tenth-best ranked song received 1 point.

Running order

The final running order of the competing performances at the semi-finals and the final were decided by the producer of the show and approved by the Executive Producer, the Executive Supervisor, the CBU and the Reference Group.

Presenters

On 11 April 2015, SVT announced that Petra Mede and Måns Zelmerlöw  were the hosts of the 2nd edition. Molly Sandén, previous edition's winner, was also chosen as host of the green room.

National host broadcaster

During an initial meeting between the host broadcaster SVT and CBU (Contest Broadcasting Union) in 16 April 2015, the representatives of the core organising team were selected. Merfi Amadeus was announced as the executive producer and Kostas Bouris as the executive supervisor.

Participants

On 6 April 2015, it was announced that forty-four countries would participate in the 2nd edition of the Sound Of Europe.

Incidents

Hungarian disqualification

Hungary had originally confirmed their participation in the contest with the song "Tonight", performed by Kállay Saunders and Rebstar. However, the CBU announced on 29 April 2015 that the Hungarian broadcaster had not pay their participation by 25 April, the deadline set by the CBU. This had led to strong reactions against the decision and the Hungarian disqualification. Hungary would be able to come back in the contest, only if they would have paid their participations.

Monegasque disqualification

The day of the 3rd semi-final, it was announced on air that the Monegasque representative, Zaz, wasn't able to perform on stage for unknown reasons. As a result, Monaco disqualified. One day after the Grand Final, Zaz declared that the Monegasque broadcaster would try to sabotage her the time she would perform live, so she, for retaliation, didn't performed at the semi-final.

San Marinese disqualification

Rumor has it that Valentina Monetta fainted the day of the semi-final she was about to perform. She couldn't do this, because she was very sick. This led to the San Marinese disqualification. SMRTV chose again Valentina Monetta to represent them at the next edition.
